Chamber Advocacy Process

The Chamber’s Advocacy & Public Policy Process

Advocacy is a core focus of The Chamber. We work towards helping to raise the collective voice of business in support of policies that further enhance the business climate in our state and region. Working collaboratively with decision makers, we strive to find the best solutions to complex issues and create opportunities for input. One of our Chamber’s greatest strengths is the way in which we make decisions. The vetting process for advocacy decisions involves a checks-and-balances approach that ensures all decisions reflect The Chamber as a whole and are not singularly representative of specific members or segments of the business community.

The Advocacy Division is made up of the Chamber Advocacy Council and the Legislative Council, comprised of member volunteers and led by board-appointed chairs. Both groups meet monthly to discuss developing issues that fall within areas identified in The Chamber's legislative agenda, local public policy initiatives and/or strategic plan. The Advocacy Council focuses on issues that arise on a local level, while the Legislative Council monitors issues within the state legislature, and sometimes on a federal level

Sub-Committees

Complex issues are often discussed through committees that provide an in-depth look at an issue, develop a plan or solution, and offer opportunities for engagement with additional stakeholders

The findings of these committees are then reviewed by either the Advocacy Council or the Legislative Council for additional input. If a position or action is suggested, the issue is brought before The Chamber Board of Directors for review and approval

Chamber Board of Directors

The Chamber Board of Directors will review and approve a position or will request additional information prior to approval
