The Reality Store® helps junior high students appreciate the ‘realities’ of life and achieve a better understanding of personal finance. In the Reality Store®, junior high students pretend they are a 28-year-old starting out in their life and career.
The students then visit stations (staffed by you, our volunteers) to determine how to spend their salaries and make ends meet, budgeting for transportation, housing, clothes, food, and so on.
This wonderful volunteer opportunity enlightens students and encourages them to consider extending their educational careers. Over 200 students will be in attendance to participate in this hands-on exercise which will teach them the importance of budgeting and help them see the impact that their grades can have on their future. We need around 40 total volunteers to make this happen.
Shifts: There are 2 volunteer shifts available for this event:
Shift 1: 7:20am-10:40am (Breakfast provided)
Shift 2: 11:00am-2:25pm (Lunch provided)
Volunteers are welcome to sign up for one or multiple shifts. To volunteer, click the register now button or email the Success School at success.school@chamberbloomington.org.
Please note: Edgewood Junior High School will run a quick background check as you enter the building to volunteer by scanning your driver's license. The school reserves the right to deny entry based upon the results.

As a part of the Chamber's Foundation, The Success School acts as the connection between the business and the education communities. We serve students by introducing them to many different potential career options, providing them with opportunities to interact with professionals in different fields and helping them understand that graduating from high school is crucial for future success. We also serve the business community by offering meaningful volunteer opportunities for business professionals in our career learning programs which provide workforce development services for youth.
