The Reality Store® helps junior high students appreciate the ‘realities’ of life and achieve a better understanding of personal finance. In the Reality Store®, junior high students pretend they are a 28-year-old starting out in their life and career.

The students then visit stations (staffed by you, our volunteers) to determine how to spend their salaries and make ends meet, budgeting for transportation, housing, clothes, food, and so on.

This wonderful volunteer opportunity enlightens students and encourages them to consider extending their educational careers. Over 230 students will be in attendance to participate in this hands-on exercise which will teach them the importance of budgeting and help them see the impact that their grades can have on their future. We need around 50 total volunteers to make this happen.

    Shift 1: 8:00am - 10:40am (Breakfast provided starting at 7:45am)

    Shift 2: 11:10am - 3:05pm (Lunch provided 12:10-12:40pm)

Background checks are required to be submitted by 5/1/25 to be eligible for participation. Please fill out the free Background Check form, take a photo/copy of your driver's license and send both to success.school@chamberbloomington.org. Instructions also contained in the confirmation email after registration. This document and the information contained in it will be treated with great care to ensure the privacy of all volunteers.

As a part of the Chamber's Foundation, The Success School acts as the connection between the business and the education communities. We serve students by introducing them to many different potential career options, providing them with opportunities to interact with professionals in different fields and helping them understand that graduating from high school is crucial for future success. We also serve the business community by offering meaningful volunteer opportunities for business professionals in our career learning programs which provide workforce development services for youth.
