Went in to get a dress altered that I needed by Friday (came in on Monday). The woman who helped pin my dress was very sweet, and I shared that I needed it done by a certain date. They said it would be manageable, and finished pinning the dress. It needed a simple hem and to be taken in a little bit on the sides.
When she brought me to the register I was told there is a 50% extra charge for rushed services. I was never told about this when trying on the dress, and in all my years of getting my clothing tailored have never experienced this.
Luckily I called my seamstress at home who was able to complete the tailoring in 2 days for $50 vs $100+. The people here are very nice, but this is taking advantage and the customer should be told about this extra charge from the start.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Grant C.Honolulu, HI54146Dec 8, 2021
Brought a jacket to have it looked at for a misaligned zipper. Appreciate their quick response on Yelp. I was fortunate that they were able to quickly fix the zipper. Will consider them first for any future work.

rude people. not knowledgeable of many things and try to sell you more than what is needed. don't deserve a 1 star rating!

The staff was very accommodating, friendly, and attending to my needs. Would definitely recommend this shop for any of your alterations needs. Kayla, Margaret, Alice and Denise were the best team that I have worked with to accommodate me and my garments.

I have nothing bad to say about the staff of The Tailored Fit, they were all very kind and helpful. However, the prices are at least double that of everywhere else in town. We had to pay (up front, before the work was done) $175 to have minor alterations done on an 11 year-old's junior bridesmaid dress. It was $130 for the hemming alone. After I found out how much they charged my fiancé for for the alterations, were able to get a refund and pick the dress up before the work was started. We took the dress to a different shop and we were charged a total of $76 for the exact same alterations. I can't speak to the difference in the quality of work, but for an $80 bridesmaid dress, $175 in alterations is a bit much to ask!

My alteration prices are based on how long it takes us to do your alterations. We have nothing to do with the cost of a garment. The quality of our work, rent, insurance and many other things go into the cost of alterations. I am glad you found someone else to help you.

The Tailored Fit was recommended to me by my wedding planner to have my wedding dress, cocktail
dress and reception dress fitted. At first, I thought the seamstress knew what she was doing. After all
she had years of experience.
I dropped the three dresses off in February, had them pinned and explained what areas I needed to
have altered. She said she would be able to make the changes requested. After 8 weeks I had my next
fitting and have to say I was very disappointed in the outcome. Not one of the dresses were done
correctly (necklines asymmetrical, back side bunched, straps uneven, .....). When stating my concerns
she told me they had only started on the dresses the week prior to my visit (after having them for
eight weeks). She re-pinned the dresses and made an appointment with me for another fitting. I was
so upset that I went back, asked for all my dresses and had to find someone else to help me. I was
quiet about my concerns as to not embarrass her in front of her other clients. I told her I would be
happy to pay for two of the dresses which I thought maybe she had completed correctly. I had paid a
pretty substantial deposit and only asked for 52.00 dollars back on my card. Even though I was willing
to compromise she became defiant and rude. In the end my ceremony dress ended up costing me an
additional 600 dollars just to repair her botched work on top of what I paid for the dress. A wedding
is already stressful enough I could have really done without this drama.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Dec 14, 2018Previous reviewI had my wedding dress altered here and they did an amazing job! Margaret is an excellent seamstress and made me feel very welcome and comfortable as I got ready for the big day.
My dress was silk organza, which can be very hard to work with. I had beaded wide straps shortened a couple inches and the hem brought up. They also did a multi point bustle for me, (something I had never even heard of) and I love it. - Jessica M.Bloomington, IN02Apr 9, 2017
Margaret, the Tailored Fit owner, is a true artist.
I decided to wear my grandmothers wedding dress for my wedding, but it was in rough shape after being put unceremoniously in her cedar closet for decades. I was nervous about choosing a tailor to make alterations, as the dress is extremely delicate, and of course, completely irreplaceable. I went to three seamstresses in Bloomington, all of which were very nice, and inexpensive. Then I went to Margaret. She was exuberant...emotional. Inspired.
She immediately put my mind at ease. She new the fabric, the details, the technical aspects of each component of the dress. She reveled in its beauty, delicacy. She spoke of the history of the dress and of working with vintage clothing specifically, and gave me the technical names for everything she saw, so that if I took it somewhere else I would know what to ask for.
Then she had me do a mock fitting, and began pinning the loose top part perfectly. We talked about the hem and bustle, and from there she gave me a quote, which was more than twice as much as the most expensive quote I received. It was at the top end of what I had budgeted for, but her quality and artistry were overwhelming, and I decided to go with her!
I had two more fittings with her, one of which we Skyped in my grandparents for. I also decided I wanted to change the back and train, and she understood my vision and executed it wonderfully! I had my final fitting, and the dress is gorgeous. Exactly what I envisioned!
As I changed some extra things, this did increase my quote. That would be my only piece of advice to anyone with a project: if you have a max budget, let her know, so that she can accommodate that. The unexpected usually comes up with projects of this nature, so fill her in if you have those constraints so that she can work through that and you aren't surprised.
Quality costs, and this artist is worth every penny. Thank you Margaret, and everyone over at the Tailored Fit for your exquisite work!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I had Margaret work on my wedding gown. In the very beginning, I was so nervous to have ANYONE work on it because it was such a heavily beaded, yet delicate gown.
She really made it look even more amazing than I imagined. During the process, she had me look at bustles for my gown, but all had me worried that they'd take away from it and look tacky. She listened to this concern and made up a bustle custom to my dress that was just stunning. I mean, this she did some very, very amazing work. I am so overjoyed with the finished product.
I really can't thank Margaret enough. My dress was handled with such individualized thought and care.
I recommend her shop to anyone needing formal wear work done. She's wonderful. We even decided to have her shop do the groom's suit!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mackie P.Chicago, IL776107Jan 12, 2017
When I get anything altered back in Carmel, it ranges from 45-60. I have gotten my prom dresses altered for less than 100. They are charging me 100 to get a lined cotton dress altered....absurd. They are EXTREMELY over priced, not to mention, the owner is so passively aggressive rude to new customers and, not to mention, her employees. I watched her treat one of her employees so disrespectfully while she was helping me with my dress. Unnecessary and unprofessional. Will not be coming back.
